Bargaining Organization Team (BOT) Coordinator.
Based in Portland or Salem, OR
General Description:
the Bargaining Organization Team (BOT) Coordinator. It is the main driver of the Union’s programme. This role provides support, oversight, and coordination to a team of bargaining strategists, ensuring they and bargaining committees are properly trained and supported, contract timelines are effectively monitored, and internal and external stakeholders and resources are strategically engaged to help workers win the best contracts possible.
Essential functions and responsibilities:
- Coordinate the activities of organizers and strategists for the Bargaining Organizer Team (BOT), ensuring negotiation tasks and priorities are clearly communicated and supported by managers and field coordinators.
- Identify training and skills development needs for BOT strategists; Deliver or coordinate training courses to ensure expertise is fully developed and applied effectively.
- Monitor the progress and status of contract negotiations, ensure deadlines are met, campaign plans are developed and followed up, and leadership remains informed of important developments.
- Assist in leading and implementing the development of the Union’s comprehensive negotiating programme, ensuring the achievement of strategic objectives and priorities.
- Collaborate with and support department/program managers in developing and implementing strategic campaigns.
- Support the BOT team in preparing and negotiating collective bargaining agreements; Approval of contracts including work preparation and recruitment when needed.
- Assist BOT team members to coordinate appropriately with other departments within the consortium, including research, data, communications, legal, contract enforcement and field.
- Provide guidance to BOT staff to ensure adherence to regulatory policies and procedures.
- Draft proposals, memorandums of understanding/letters of agreement, integrated collective bargaining agreements, member communications, and serve as key spokesperson for union bargaining committees. Supervise the work of others performing these functions as needed.
- Assist contract enforcement and legal teams as needed in contract interpretation cases.
- Participation in political action: door-to-door canvassing, phone banks, issue drives, candidate campaigns, informing members of issues and candidates, targeting candidates, precinct targeting of candidate races, voter registration, questionnaires and surveys about candidates and issues; Get out the vote campaigns.
Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of experience leading contract negotiations and bargaining committees, with a demonstrated record of strategic campaigns using bargaining to improve worker standards.
- Demonstrate a commitment to building a strong, multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-generational labor movement that raises the standards of the working class.
- At least three years of experience leading and/or supervising organizational staff.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to coordinate initiatives, track progress and ensure priorities are met.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to perform effectively in high pressure situations.
- Ability and stamina to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a valid vehicle for use at work.
Work environment:
☐ Group 1 – requires immediate or sustained strenuous physical activity
☒ Group 2 – requires occasional heavy lifting and effort for short periods
☐ Group 3 – Very limited physical exertion
Office and field work that involves travel to all areas of the state – sometimes with overnight stays – in a variety of environmental conditions. The work week is Monday through Friday plus weekend work when specifically assigned. The work day may begin before normal work hours and extend beyond depending on the requirements of the task.
Wages and benefits:
Comprehensive fully paid health, dental and vision benefits for employees and eligible dependents, domestic partner benefits, generous vacation and vacation policies and a 15% employer-paid 401k defined contribution. Compensation range is based on experience of $98,652 – $129,912 annually.
