Philanthropic Funding Partner at the University of Birmingham
salary: The full-time starting salary typically ranges from £47,389 to £56,535, with the possibility of progressing once post-deployment to £63,606.
Role summary
Join us in the ambitious ‘Birmingham In Action’ campaign, which is committed to raising more than £600 million in philanthropic funding and 1.25 million volunteer hours, making the university one of the world’s leaders in university development. To help deliver on our exciting campaign ambitions, we are seeking to appoint a Charitable Funding Partner (CFP) to maximize charitable funding. As a key member of the Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO) Philanthropic Funding team, you will work closely with a range of leading academics and senior leadership to: (i) identify and create new charitable funding opportunities from trusts, foundations and charities in the UK and abroad; (2) Establish and manage the development of long-term relationships with philanthropic funders; and (3) develop compelling philanthropic funding proposals to secure support for our life-changing research, educational, and capital programs. You will be an enthusiastic team player, curious about the combined worlds of research and philanthropy, skilled to discover new funding opportunities, and confident in your ability to initiate and grow complex inter-organizational relationships. You will have an enthusiasm for building relationships and co-creating initiatives with funders and talent to showcase the amazing work of our academics and scientists.
Main duties
As a Philanthropic Funding Partner, you will excel in the following areas:
- Achieve set financial targets to secure charitable income growth year on year and create a sustainable portfolio of charitable funding prospects (charities, trusts and foundations in the UK and abroad).
- Plan and manage a range of funding applications to achieve set objectives, whether for year-round presence or long-term sustainability ambitions.
- Adopt a relationship-based approach to creating and managing long-term, effective and profitable relationships with current and potential funders and stakeholders.
- Manage oversight of a selected range of significant university philanthropic funder relationships (e.g. £1M+ charities, trusts and foundations in the UK and overseas) in conjunction with leading academics and DARO’s Director of Donor Experience.
- Develop and implement strategic and operational plans that will increase the number of philanthropic funders who engage with and actively support the University of Birmingham.
Knowledge, skills, qualifications and experience required
- Relevant degree, relevant equivalent professional qualification or significant relevant experience demonstrating the expertise required in this role
- Formal knowledge of working practices, processes and procedures relevant to the role, including wider sector/commercial awareness.
- Proven track record of securing 6-figure and possibly 7-figure gifts/research funding for charitable causes.
- Evidence of understanding and translating complex information to create compelling funding proposals, and the ability to present information, in written and oral form, in an attractive and accessible manner.
- Ability to identify, build and develop networks of new and existing charitable funders in the UK and internationally.
