Director of Artist Development at Sony Music in New York, NY | 497310

As Director of Artist Development, you will play a key role in helping Awal artists realize their musical and creative dreams. Working in close collaboration with A&R and other key creative and business teams at AWAL, you will be the lead partner and champion for a roster of 15-20 early stage and artist development artists, partnering with them on creative and strategic marketing plans and content strategies focused on telling artists’ stories and growing their fanbases while also supporting the operational elements of their releases. This is an exciting opportunity to help build an artists’ career from the ground up.
What will you do:
• Build strong, collaborative and trusted relationships directly with artists and their teams while managing multiple active campaigns simultaneously.
• Collaborate with internal AWAL teams such as A&R, Global Business Partnerships, Sync, Brand Partnerships, Radio, Creative, and International to build innovative marketing campaigns that drive cultural impact, grow fan bases, and deliver tangible business results.
• Work closely with artists and their teams to build and implement creative digital marketing plans around releases and tours that grow audiences through engaging content, creator strategies, content seeding, alternative accounts and fans, advertising, etc.
• Maintain and build a network of external partners such as content producers, creatives, social strategists, marketing agencies and advertisers who you hire and manage directly on campaigns.
• Conceptualize and coordinate campaign production of creative and social content.
• Craft and share compelling marketing updates including artist pitch documents, audience segmentations, release strategy updates, project pitch information, and data analysis.
• Provide direct operational support to artist teams by preparing digital and physical releases and troubleshooting data and data issues and royalty questions.
• Monitor and analyze campaign performance through internal and third-party data tools in order to measure goals and extract lessons and apply them to campaigns.
• Managing and managing marketing campaign budgets.
• Attend shows regularly and travel, as needed.
Who are you:
• 6-8 years of experience in a marketing or digital marketing role at a music label with a proven track record of success working closely with artists across multiple genres.
• You love music and are passionate about AWAL’s mission of partnering with independent artists to tell stories that shape culture.
• You embrace creativity, aim high and push boundaries while maintaining impeccable attention to detail.
• You have excellent knowledge of the current music and social media landscape – from emerging artists and short trends to the latest fan behaviors and algorithm changes – with a willingness to experiment.
• No task is too big or too small. You take a hands-on approach to campaign development and take responsibility for the overall success of your project.
• An excellent communicator and enthusiastic collaborator who works closely with artists, managers, team members, external partners and senior management.
• You are intrinsically motivated and feel equally happy and comfortable working independently and collaborating with a broad team.
• You are hungry to learn and grow. You are a curious self-starter who loves to ask questions and is excited about new projects. You seek out and embrace opportunities to invest in your professional and personal development.

Salary/Benefits
$100,000.00 – $115,000.00 per year
The expected annual base salary does not include any other compensation components or benefits for which the individual may be eligible. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the individual applicant’s qualifications for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education achieved, other professional certifications or licenses, and the location where the applicant lives and/or from which he or she will perform the job.

$100,000 – $115,000 USD
