Assistant Professor – Sound Design

The Faculty of Drama at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Oklahoma University invites the positions of assistant professor in proper design with an appointment to start autumn 2026.

We are looking for a colleague who is a committed artist and an active voice designer who will share his professional experience, a sense of creative discovery, and know the emerging audio techniques with university students through teaching and guidance.

The qualified candidate will teach a set of university courses in audio design, audio production, and other relevant experiences such as Vectorworks. The courses include, but not limited to: sound techniques, advanced sound design, sound recording, and digital sound techniques. With the development of the audio design continuously, the successful candidate will be encouraged to continue developing the curricula based on these foundational courses. A successful candidate may be asked to be a guest lecturer for other chapters within the administration to facilitate the relevant topic instructions.

In addition to working in the class, we provide our students with the opportunity to put the skills they learned into implementation by designing dramas, musical plays, opera and production dance in three different spaces for the university theater. A successful candidate will be responsible for directing university students’ voice designers in all aspects of creating and implementing their audio designs.

We appreciate the artist’s skills and technical experience on an equal footing. The qualified candidate must have the ability to control the sound systems, design it, explore and repair errors in a variety of theatrical places in addition to experience in live mixing. They will work closely with studio and store staff, the Drama College, and representatives of other fine arts participating in the university theater. The candidate may also design a sound for the university theater if there is no student appointed to the project.

The candidate should have experience in standard sound software applications such as DANTE, Protools, QLAB and Vectorworks. Efficiency is preferred in additional similar design platforms.

A successful candidate must have a master’s degree in business administration or its equivalent. Previous teaching experience in higher education and an active professional profession in sound design prefers. Applicants must provide a portfolio and an updated professional location.

The required qualifications include:

  • Master’s degree in Master or Equality.
  • You must have the ability to control and design sound systems, explore and fix errors in a variety of theatrical places, as well as experience in live mixing.
  • You must have experience in standard sound software applications such as Dante, Protools, QLAB and Vectorworks.

Favorite qualifications include:

  • Efficiency is preferred in additional similar design platforms.
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education and an active professional profession in sound design prefers.
