The Integrated Design and Media Program in the Department of Technology, Culture, and Society at NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track, renewable faculty position in Integrated Design and Media, at the Assistant Professor level in industry, with a start date of September 1, 2026.

We are looking for candidates with diverse and mixed backgrounds (a mix of researchers, artists, designers, or developers) whose work addresses themes of gender, race, labor, accessibility, and other critical issues in societal context (bias, surveillance, authorship, consent) through emerging media technologies. We are particularly interested in creative practices and research focused on equity, civic engagement, and expanding participation in emerging technology through activism, advocacy, equity in design, or other strategies.
Candidates must work physically with emerging media technologies and design practices in one or more of the following areas: visual design, web tools, machine learning, extended reality (AR, VR, spatial computing) and 3D. This position will complement and reinforce our commitment to delivering a robust curriculum that includes diverse and critical perspectives, applications, and locations in the practice of digital art and design.

The successful candidate must be an excellent teacher with a strong commitment to student mentoring, willing to teach undergraduate and master’s students. Teaching requirements include the program’s core courses as well as special courses within the candidate’s area of ​​expertise. Candidates can expect a teaching load of 2/2 with some additional services. The Integrated Design and Media program offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Integrated Design and Media.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a terminal degree (preferably MFA or PhD) in digital media, media arts, design, or related fields (art, design, or engineering).

Additional information
According to the New York City Pay Transparency Law, the annual base salary (for 9 months) for this position ranges between $80,000 and $120,000 for an Assistant Professor in industry. NYU considers factors such as (but not limited to) job scope and responsibilities, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, equity among internal peers, as well as market and regulatory considerations when making an offer.
