Technical Specialist in Materials Chemistry at Nottingham Trent University
Part time – 26 hours per week / Permanent
About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the research team of Distinguished Professor Carol Perry who is conducting research at the interfaces between chemistry, physics and the biosciences. The role of Technical Specialist is 0.7FTE. The successful candidate will ensure the smooth running of her research laboratories. They will provide technical services, including managing laboratory equipment, overseeing the health and safety requirements of the group and helping to manage research projects. The suitable candidate will also be directly involved in both the experimental and reporting aspects of the research. Estimating and coordinating the use of research equipment is essential along with estimating maintenance and service schedules as you will be the point of contact for both end users and engineers. Participating in general maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment, assisting users in reserving equipment and monitoring stock will form part of the duties. Some time will be allocated to supporting current research projects in the group which currently include studies on mycorrhizal fungi, antimicrobial peptides and the synthesis of peptide-directed materials. This hands-on role will suit someone with well-developed technical skills from a practical science background with the ability to work closely with others. Some health and safety training may be helpful. You will possess a good level of general education with (ideally) a minimum of three years of relevant experience, and ideally be qualified to a minimum of NVQ3, City and Guilds Level 3, 2 A, ONC/OND or equivalent in a relevant subject.
