Under close supervision, the Planning Technician carries out professional and technical planning and environmental work in managing and developing community and general plans, zoning regulations, and environmental documents; Explains planning program, policies, local ordinances, and state and federal regulations to the public.

Minimum qualifications

Either: 1. One year of full-time paid professional or technical experience in the environmental, urban or Regional planning.

Or: 2. Successful completion of 30 semesters (45 quarters) from an accredited college or university with at least 20 semesters (30 quarters) in public administration, environmental studies, environmental planning and management, environmental studies, geography, natural resources, urban or regional planning or another field closely related to the class objective.

Note: Related fields above may include archaeology, anthropology, architectural history, biology, botany, business administration, climatology, economics, engineering, geology, Historic preservationHydrology, political science, rangeland management, recreation management (external resource management), watershed management and wildlife management.
