Assistant Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at Imperial College London

About the role

We are pleased to appoint a new fellow at the level of Assistant Professor in Geotechnical Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering. The successful candidate will have research interests that complement the research of current faculty at our university Geotechnical Departmentdemonstrated by their research portfolio.

While we welcome applications from any field of geotechnical engineering, we are particularly interested in applicants with experience in field testing/monitoring and on-site testing, environmental geoengineering including brownfield development, underground infrastructure, earthworks, or sustainable geotechnical.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate how their research contributes to addressing the challenges of providing low-carbon energy, mitigating risks posed by climate change, contributing to the development of sustainable resilient infrastructure, or addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

what would you do

You will plan, resource and direct an original and impactful research program in geotechnical engineering, lead your own research projects and develop collaborative initiatives with other members of the department and college and with external collaborators.

You will also contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in soil mechanics/geotechnical engineering, taking into account our range of Master’s courses in geotechnical engineering in particular.

What we are looking for

You will have a PhD (or equivalent) in geotechnical engineering or a related field and well-developed experience and national reputation in geotechnical engineering.

You will also have research interests that complement current research activity in the Geotechnical Department and can contribute to:

  • Addressing the challenges of providing low carbon energy
  • Mitigating the risks posed by climate change
  • Contributing to the development of sustainable and resilient infrastructure
  • Addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Demonstration of your contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in soil mechanics/geotechnical engineering is essential, along with a portfolio of research that reflects your national standing (as appropriate to career stage).

Experience in one or more of the following: field testing/on-site monitoring and testing, environmental geoengineering including brownfield development, underground infrastructure, earthworks, or sustainable geotechnical is desirable.
