Assistant or associate professor in directing

The Helmerich School of Drama at the University of Oklahoma Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts is seeking applicants for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor position whose primary experience is in directing, to support the newly created Master of Fine Arts in Directing program. This is a nine-month faculty appointment with a 3/3 course load.

The ideal candidate will maintain a strong level of professional involvement in mentoring at the national and/or international level.

A record of excellence in teaching, student mentoring and experience working with graduates and universities is highly desirable along with a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and innovative teaching methods.

Responsibilities include teaching courses in directing mainly but not limited to graduate students and other theatrical performance areas as qualified. Additional duties include mentoring students, assisting with student recruitment, supervising graduate teaching assistantships, mentoring graduate dissertations, and serving committees. This position will also work with current faculty to further develop the MFA directing curriculum and prepare students for contemporary directing and performance practice. Tenure-track faculty are expected to develop and maintain a creative/scholarly profile consistent with the expectations of tenure and promotion at a first-level research university. In addition, they will contribute to ongoing creative work, including directing in the University Theater and School Drama Laboratory seasons.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

Final degree in directing or related field. 5 years of professional directing experience. 2 years college level teaching experience.

Preferred qualifications:

10 years of professional directing experience with strong links to the world of professional theater. 5 years of college level teaching experience.
