Postdoctoral Assistant Professor

The University of Michigan, Department of Mathematics, invites applications for Postdoctoral Assistant Professor and D. J. Lewis Research Assistant, to begin August 25, 2026. These non-access positions may be renewed annually for up to three years, and are designed to provide mathematics with conditions conducive to academic career development in research. Assistant Professors are responsible for teaching two courses per semester; DJ Lewis’s research positions have reduced his teaching loads. These positions may be combined with other postdoctoral fellowships and grant funding, giving additional reductions in teaching responsibility. Preference is given to candidates who earn the Ph.D. degree in 2025 or later and who submit a completed application by December 15, 2025. Application materials must be submitted electronically through the AMS website www.mathjobs.org. Alternatively, applications may be sent to: Postdoctoral Recruitment Committee, Department of Mathematics, University of Michigan, 2074 East Hall, 530 Church Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-1043. The salary is competitive and there are also opportunities for additional summer pay. Please submit an employment portfolio consisting of a letter of application, a curriculum transcript, and three to four letters of recommendation (one of which must address teaching). In all cases, please provide a statement of teaching philosophy and experience, evidence of teaching excellence, and a statement of current and future research plans. Please email math-actf@umich.edu with any questions. The University of Michigan supports the needs of dual career couples and is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. The university is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and we encourage applications from candidates who will contribute to advancing these goals.
