Assistant Research Professor in Intensive Data Science (fixed term) at the University of Cambridge

The Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics announces the opening of applications for the position of Assistant Professor in the field of data-intensive science. This full-time position will be directly linked to the Data Science intensive Master’s program (https://mphildis.bigdata.cam.ac.uk/).

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in advanced image analysis techniques, both from a mathematics and artificial intelligence perspective, both in academia and industry. They must have a proven track record of teaching Master of Philosophy level on the subject and be excellent communicators.

They must be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding and demonstrate practical experience in statistical methods and machine learning algorithms. They must also be proficient in Python and the techniques required for software development best practices.

They must be organised, highly motivated and must demonstrate the ability to coordinate academic teaching. They are expected to have a PhD in mathematics or physics.

Due to the fast-moving nature of the topics covered in the Master of Philosophy programme, the role holder will be expected to: actively research, participate in one or more of the research groups associated with the programme, and maintain their knowledge of the current state of research, and of the techniques used within them.

The successful candidate will be expected to support the Master of Philosophy degree by: creating and delivering course modules; Supervising, evaluating and inspecting units; And submitting projects for new master’s degrees.

Fixed Term – This position is on a fixed term basis. The job start date is March 12, 2026 and the end date is September 30, 2026.
