Four months after the demise of her father Santosh Jagdale in the Pahalgam terrorist attack, Asawari Jagdale has been offered a job by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) at the civic body itself, following a direction from the state government.
Jagdale has be given one of four positions at the civic body based on her educational qualifications.
The PMC has proposed giving her the post of administrative officer, deputy superintendent, computer operator or clerk-typist. However, she had requested a job as assistant commissioner in PMC.
Municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, in a communication to the state urban development department, said, “It is requested to consider the proposed posts for Asawari Jagdale’s appointment in PMC service. The state urban development department should take a decision on the application of Asawari Jagdale for a job in PMC.”
Santosh Jagdale was among the 26 victims of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The state government had assured government jobs to the kin of victims. Asawari had requested the state government give her a job in PMC as she could not leave her family and wanted to be in the city. State Legislative Council chairperson Neelam Gorhe had sent a recommendation letter to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and the state urban development department to give Asawari a job in the PMC. The state government then urged the civic body to submit a proposal to appoint Asawari in PMC service.
Asawari had submitted her educational qualifications — a diploma in Law and Labour Welfare, an MBA in Human Resource Management, and a BSc in Computer Science — while seeking a job as assistant municipal commissioner.
NCP(SP) working president Supriya Sule said, “The state government assured Asawari Jagdale of a job in PMC. It has been months now, but there was no progress and today we were informed that the proposal has been sent to the state government for approval. I personally called up the secretary in the state urban development department to speed up the approval and was told that it would be done in a week.”

She said that it was her request that the state government should not delay the appointment of Pahalgam victims’ kin in government jobs. “It is the state government who gave an assurance of the job so the appointment should not be delayed due to the process. The NCP(SP) will do a regular follow-up till the appointment is made,” said Sule.
