Varanasi Police, in a joint operation by the Cyber Cell and Police Station Chowk, have busted an international gang running fake job placement companies and sealed two call centres operating from rented premises in Varanasi. The operation led to the arrest of seven accused, including two women, involved in duping job seekers under the guise of overseas employment offers. A case has been registered at Police Station Chowk under Case Crime No. 106/2025, Sections 318(2), 319(2), 338, 339, and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Modus Operandi
The accused lured victims by making calls and publishing advertisements promising lucrative jobs in foreign countries such as the Gulf nations, Israel, Oman, Cambodia, and South Africa. They collected large sums from applicants in the name of visa processing, medical certificates, and flight tickets. Victims were issued fake offer letters, visas, medical certificates, and flight tickets, only to discover at the airport that no such travel arrangements existed. The fraudsters used mule bank accounts to collect money and operated through fake SIM cards. Their agents in Kolkata, Delhi, and Mumbai further expanded the network to trap unsuspecting job seekers.
