Kohima: The Konyak Students’ Union (KSU), on Wednesday, urged Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to take immediate action on reforming the state’s job reservation policy to provide fair opportunities in line with population ratios.
The KSU has submitted a reminder to the CM regarding its earlier representation seeking a review and reform of the state’s job reservation policy. The reminder was sent through the Deputy Commissioner of Mon.
In the communication, the KSU cited their initial representation, dated June 13, 2025. The Union highlighted that the Konyak tribe, one of the largest tribal populations in Nagaland, continues to face systemic marginalisation under the current employment framework.
The representation points out that Mon district records the lowest literacy rate, the highest educated unemployment, and poor socio-economic indicators, emphasising the urgent need for reform in the reservation system. The KSU described the delay in addressing these concerns as a source of growing frustration among educated Konyak youths.
Through the reminder, the Union has urged the government to undertake an immediate review and restructuring of the existing job reservation policy and to introduce a population-based reservation system through a special cabinet decision, without waiting for the release of the 2021 census.
The KSU expressed confidence in the Chief Minister’s leadership and called for prompt action to ensure justice and equitable opportunities for all sections of Naga society. The representation was signed by KSU President Temwang and General Secretary A. Pangnan.
