There’s a new job vacancy in the market that’s something out of the ordinary — and it’s going viral on social media. A Mumbai-based CEO has posted an opening for a “doom-scroller,” and netizens are racing toward it with curiosity and excitement.
But why is everyone so eager to grab this “doom-scroller” job?
In social media terms, a doom-scroller is someone who spends hours on platforms like Instagram, YouTube, or X, endlessly scrolling through memes, reels, and videos — whether for fun or for catching up on news. Basically, the job description is: wake up, eat, doom-scroll, sleep, and repeat.
The vacancy was posted on LinkedIn with the headline: “Hiring doom-scrollers at Monk-E.” The post listed the required skills, including, ”Screen time on Instagram and YouTube of at least six hours a day (with screenshots as proof). An obsession with creators and creator culture. Knowing every new creator on the block. Consuming r/ICG like the morning paper. Fluency in both English and Hindi. And yes, even being comfortable using Excel.”
The job description further mentioned, “Role: Doom-scroll and be aware about the latest in the creator world. Location: Mumbai, full time only. Write to careers@monk-e.in with “doomscroller” as the title. Please show some personality/humour in the email body. Do not use chatGPT for it.”
Since then, the post has gone viral — not just on LinkedIn, but across Instagram and other platforms. One user joked, “I just checked whether I am eligible, and I’m not. Don’t know how I feel about that!” Another wrote, “Finally, LinkedIn scroll karne ka kuch toh faida hua. Toh fir shuru kare… kal se aajau?!”
