Doctorate of positions available in artificial intelligence, control, and air robots (Fall 2026) California University in San Diego and San Diego State University
Two doctorates fully funded with positions are available for Fall 2026 through the joint doctorate program (JDP) in mechanical and space engineering at the University of California in San Diego and Saint Diego State SDSU University.
About PI: Dr. John Chen, Associate Professor in the Department of Aviation Engineering at SDSU. for him The research focuses on dynamics, control, improvement and artificial intelligence, especially in Data-based modeling, decision-making under uncertainty, AI-self-independence Dynamic systems with a large -scale network. Air traffic control applications include Management, UAS, and independent aircraft traffic management (UAS) Air vehicle/Earth systems. Dr. Chen obtained a PhD and MS in Aviation Engineering from Bordeaux University and BS in Aviation Engineering from Beihang University.
Research focus areas: We are looking for very excited students to join our laboratory in one or more of the following areas: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automated learning (ML) for independent systems • Physical-Aa: Fly-based modeling and learning-based methods Weather robots, including drone control, autonomy, and jamming • Optimal arithmetic control and random improvement • Safe and developmental autonomy under certainty Distributed control and computing of network systems
Qualifications: The perfect candidates must have: • A strong sporting background (control theory, improvement, probability, etc.) • Solid programming skills in Python, C ++, Julia or Matlab • Experience or courses in one or more of the following: Dynamics and control • Automated learning or reinforcement learning • Modeling and simulation • Robots or drones systems The researchers after the doctorate and visiting students/scholars also welcome progress.
