The Department of Digital Design and Information Studies at the Faculty of Communications and Culture at the University of Arhus University calls for requests for post -PhD of the Sapere Aude Research project “Fantasy” for existential risks “: making and controlling the future of humanity” with funding from the Independent Research Fund.

The post -PhD position is a fixed position for two years and two years continued. The situation begins on November 1, 2025 or as soon as possible after that.

Since the beginning of the twenty -first century, scientists, policy makers and social movements have increasingly embraced a vision for the future that “existential risks” to survive in the long term of humanity as a major source of concern for social, economic and political work at the present time. The project examines the production of existential risk imagination, their assimilation in global rule, and their accompanying through social movements. It is based on science and technology studies (STS) and in -depth action, qualitative field work in different locations where existential risks imagination, accredited, project, the project closes important gaps in evaluating the criticism of the policy of these new strong forms of the future.

Beyond the doctorate position

The successful applicant is expected to implement a specific work package in the project, which seeks to understand the processes of knowledge production in making the imagination of existential risk. To this end, POSTDOC will plan the relevant institutions and actors involved in building existential risk scenarios and inquiring about the methods and forms of knowledge that are filled by them. In particular, it will provide in -depth ethnographic work in the selected institutions an insight into how to produce existential risks in Europe and the United States. This will include, among other things, interviews with academics, scientists, financiers and businessmen in the field of technology as well as participatory notes in meetings, conferences and events on existential risk analysis. Moreover, a post -PhD researcher is expected to hold a research (funding from the project) in one of the institutions of our advisory board members (Stanford Universityand Oxford UniversityOr L’Nstut National De Rechache Pour L’Argriculture, L’Mmentation Et L’IVALNEMENT)).

Teaching and supervision

As a researcher after a doctorate, your position depends mainly on research, but it will also include a small degree of teaching and supervision. To achieve this purpose, the successful applicant is expected to participate in teaching activities, supervision of management, teaching and supervision of BA and MA levels in the Department of Digital Design and Information Studies.
Given the international focus of certification programs, the successful applicant is expected to study in English and Danish.
