About this opportunity
Reports to the director, planning and development, Planner III: TMXʷolaxʷ An environment that plays a major leadership role in developing, implementing and monitoring environmental planning initiatives that enhance the use of responsible lands, cultural supervision, and environmental protection within WestBank First Nation (WFN). This position is responsible for advancing the goals of strategic environmental planning in coordination with the comprehensive community plan for WFN, the Land Use Law, and sustainable development frameworks. Planner III works cooperatively with internal departments, community members and external partners to ensure WFN lands and resources in a way that respects traditional values ​​while supporting community growth and environmental integrity.

• Development and coordination of the WestBank First Nation program in consultation with the owners of the internal interest, local authorities, higher governments and non -governmental agencies
• Conduct, support and review environmental assessments of various projects that involve the possible assessment of the proposed developments or land use changes on the environment, including air, water, wildlife, ecosystems and traditional environmental knowledge
• Develop strategies and recommendations to mitigate environmental effects and ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations
• Cooperation in establishing and updating land use plans that include environmental sustainability. This includes the division of areas, sub -division, development plans, and determining the uses of appropriate lands that observe development needs while preserving the environment
• Supervising environmental planning projects from starting to end, including defining timetables, budgets, resource allocation, project management contracts and advisors
• Environmental data analysis to determine trends, risk assessment, and reporting decision -making processes related to land use projects and developing them

It should be:

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, planning, environmental studies, natural resource management, or related field
• Membership or eligibility for membership at the College of Applied Biology in British Colombia or the Canadian Institute of Planning
• At least 5 years experience in environmental planning, sustainability, land use or relevant fields
• Experience in preparing the first community of the nation is one of the assets
• Criminal record examination with accepted results to WFN
• A valid BC driver’s license is required
