Summary of the position/Overview:

NYAM is seeking a dynamic, innovative and cooperative leadership as the director of the library, accused of re -imagining its goals and building more rich properties inside NYAM and beyond. The director provides reports to the NYAM president and the service of the NYAM leadership team, plays a decisive role in creating the library as a corner to participate and build the future library. The manager will help implement the vision and strategic priorities to support institutional alignment, using innovative organizational principles and technological progress to increase access and spread knowledge that provides population health.

The New York Medicine Academy (NYAM) is a leading voice of innovation in the health of the population. Throughout its 178 -year -old history, NYAM has defended bold changes to systems that perpetuate healthy inequality and prevent all societies from achieving a healthy and longer life. Focusing on the social, environmental and institutional factors that affect health, the NYAM team cooperates with partners in academic circles, government, community organizations, and others to enhance policies, programs and society needs that contribute to health for all. Today, this work includes an innovative research that is uniquely estimated at the inputs of society to achieve maximum impact. Besides the historic NYAM Library, a global magazine and supported by 1,800 colleagues and members, the influence of NYAM continues as a population health leader.

The historic NYAM Library started in January 1847 with the founding of the Academy. It opened its groups to the public public in 1878. By the mid -twentieth century, it grew to be one of the largest independent medical libraries in the country. Based on its extensive historical groups, in the early twenty -first century, the library moved from a modern health sciences library to a historical medical library. The strong candidates for this position will have a clear and direct vision for the future of the historical medical library in an independent institutional research environment, background in the history of health sciences, and experience in managing the library/archiving. Candidates must have extensive administrative experience in a library or cultural heritage environment, including strategic planning and implementation.

Basic duties and responsibilities:

Main responsibilities:

  • Strategic leadership and planning: Develop and enact a comprehensive plan for how the library serves the best NYAM research staff, colleagues and the needs of the wider society. Innovation for the future of evidence -based health policy and knowledge sharing. Consider the resources and talent in the library to partnership effectively via NYAM and with peer institutions, and merge library and groups services into the task and organizational goals. Implementing strategies to stand at the forefront of technological innovations.
  • Team and Resources Management: Working closely with employees who have been serving for a long time, benefiting from their experience, enhancing a culture of cooperation, enhancing the effectiveness and sustainability of the library team, recommending and building an effective staff structure in a limited resource environment. Library budgets management, ensuring cost -effective resources customization. Helping development and collection efforts, and working to increase external sources of financing, including grants, charitable work and other places.
  • Politics and groups: The manager will set priorities for groups to support advanced research and educational tasks in NYAM. The manager will allocate financing sources, set priorities, review technical infrastructure and workflow to support the increase in digitization, exhibition, and publish private groups.
  • Promotion and Communication: Conducting awareness and expanding cooperation with peer institutions and other cultural heritage entities, encouraging innovative uses of their groups, providing the historical context of research projects, and actively participating with NYAM societies. Enhance the vision of library activities and initiatives, ensuring conservative cooperation and optimal use by NYAM researchers, colleagues, researchers and broader societies.
  • Digital and technology: Ensure that digital groups, exhibitions, efforts to save and catalog are all digital and future.

Qualifications:

  • More than 8 years of progressive experience in the cultural heritage environment or cultural heritage, including experience in strategic planning and implementation.
  • The minimum master’s degree in library sciences, information or other relevant discipline.
  • An additional advanced degree of relevant discipline such as history or sociology, preferred.
  • Experience showed in the current use of digital technologies to enhance and similar library groups.
  • The ability to inspire, build confidence, manage organizational change, and promote innovation and cooperation.
  • The ability of leadership, analytical skills, creative and innovative problem solving skills, and strong commitment to service excellence.
  • Excellent skills in building and maintaining an effective communication strategy and personal relationships.
  • The fixed ability to develop relations, maintenance and supervision through a group of societies and professional levels.
  • Experience in supervision, providing guidance and guidance, monitoring and evaluating performance, training and consulting, and taking disciplinary measures as necessary.
  • Experience in planning and managing the budget, managing human resources, facilities and planning space.
  • Evidence of the ability to develop and maintain an expansion development program, including government grants, institutions,/or individual and companies awards.
  • The ability to flourish in a fast -paced environment, which depends on the task and managing multiple projects simultaneously.

This situation is located in New York City. Employees work in a hybrid environment with some flexibility, waiting for the section needs. The current expectation of this position is not less than three days a week on the site, in addition to employees or organizational events.
