The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to employ support from the leader-research support to provide strategic leadership and operational supervision of the institute’s research support functions, which ensures that facilities, laboratories, technical services and capacity development initiatives meet global level standards. The role will ensure that the research infrastructure is safe, effective, compatible and improved to enable high -quality work and scientific innovation. The leader will lead a continuous improvement in research support services, enhance institutional capacity, and maintain a strong compatibility with the institute’s scientific and strategic priorities to enhance research excellence throughout the organization. The leader will focus on four main areas: research facilities, research compliance, research methods, Beca-Lilri Center and capacity development.

ILRI improves people’s lives in low and medium -income countries through livestock science that contributes to fair and flexible livestock systems to provide diets with climate and environment. It is one of 15 CGIAR Research centers fully dedicated to animal agriculture research for the developing world. She participated in hosting Kenya and Ethiopia, and has regional or rural offices and projects in East, Southeast Asia, as well as central, eastern, southern and western Africa. www.ilri.org

Main responsibilities

Strategic leadership and planning

  • Developing and implementing the research support strategy in line with the research and innovation agenda at the institute
  • Providing advice to lead senior infrastructure needs, facility promotions, and technological investments
  • Ensuring long -term sustainability for research facilities through effective and balanced planning and resource packing

Research facilities:

  • Supervising the development, maintenance and improvement of research and infrastructure facilities.
  • Ensure that ILRI laboratory facilities are equipped with modern equipment and technology.
  • Supervising laboratories and other research facilities that cost internal and external users
  • Supervising the development, review and implementation of the facility management policies and procedures.

Research compliance:

  • Development and/or review of policies and procedures, ensuring their implementation and compliance with research regulations, ethics and standards in all locations via the ILRI portfolio.
  • Providing guidance and support for the safety of research, ethics and compliance.
  • Supervising the audit and risk assessments to ensure compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, as well as biomed and biomass requirements.

Search methods:

  • Providing experience and support in research, methodology and statistical analyzes.
  • Developing training programs on research methods and best practices.
  • Cooperation with researchers to enhance research quality.

Becca Ilri and capacity development:

  • Supervising the operation of the Beca-LIRI axis as a regional center for excellence
  • Development and implementation of capacity development programs for researchers/colleagues/trainees, including training, guidance and training.
  • Enhancing partnerships with universities and training and industry institutions to enhance skills pipelines.
  • Cooperation with internal and external partners to enhance research ability.

Individual Management:

Leadership and/or contributing to talent management initiatives, including employment, management and development of a high -performance team, and promoting a comprehensive and comprehensive work culture that enhances employee participation

Public Administration:

  • Supervising operations and budgets and ensuring the optimum management of allocated resources

requirements

  • Doctorate in the field of relevant (biological sciences, biotechnology, research or discipline management)
  • 12 years experience in the management of research facility, laboratory or technical services
  • Search experience with a high -level impact on the laboratory and preferably in the preparation of the private sector
  • Strong knowledge of quality management systems, biotechnology and organizational compliance standards
  • Leadership has proven to manage multidisciplinary teams and complex infrastructure.
  • The ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment, not central.
  • Managing strong projects, planning and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement
  • The ability to build confidence and alignment through scientific, operational and regional teams in a matrix and multi -stakeholder environment.
  • The ability to influence without power and mobility in institutional complexity through strategic communication, listening and building coalition.
  • The ability to translate the technical vision into organizational priorities and adapting the correspondence for the various cultural and disciplinary masses.
  • The ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders and influence change through relationships and reference strength.
  • The ability to build and enhance partnership with internal teams – including researchers, rural offices and operating units is necessary, as well as the ability to enhance the culture of continuous improvement and digital learning.
