✨ Integration of X -ray filming data with magnetic cottage imaging at Manchester University

This is a fully funded project for home students, funded by NTR-Net. Funding will cover tuition fees and provide a tax -free salary (according to conditions) based on the UKVI rate (19 pounds, 237 of 2024/25). This financing is available for the home, European Union students.
The identification of materials within sealed containers is important for continuous supervision of nuclear materials in the United Kingdom. Radiation methods can be used to determine nuclear materials specifically but they are subject to self -reserve as materials with interest reduce their own signals that create a risk of misleading results. The alternative signature group in the Nuclear threat/nuclear security department at the Atomic Weapons Corporation (AWE) is concerned with investigating alternative methods to determine the specific, safe and simple nuclear materials even when the typical signatures of the materials are not available.
X -ray depicting is commonly used to photograph hidden objects, but X -rays are reduced in proportion to the density that reduces the available contrast when trying to distinguish high density materials. Magnetic transformational analysis (MIS) explores the interaction of magnetic fields with a connected substance. The magnetic definition spectrum is sensitive to the site and engineering of the materials around the source and future of the magnetic field.
Hybrid tomography includes the integration of two distinctive methods of photography to give a new method that combines the benefits of both. The aim of this project will be to develop a new way to compress the data obtained by photographing X -rays and MIS for AWE’s task -related objects.
Applicants must have, or expect to achieve, at least, at least 2.1 degrees or master’s degree (or international equivalent) in the field of relevant science or engineering.
