Context and mission

The Ministry of Earth Sciences at the centralism of Barcelona SuperCEMENTING CENTRE NACIONAL De Supercomputación (BSC-CNS), and BSC-AES from now on (BSC.es/EARTH-SCIENCES) is one of the most active groups in air quality, air installation modeling, regular prediction, climate services in Europe. The department includes about 200 people, including scientists and technical staff. It was organized into five distinct research groups but interaction: air formation, climate prediction, Earth system services (ESS), global health flexibility, and mathematical earth sciences.

We are looking for a very enthusiastic student in computer science or environmental science or a related field to contribute to advanced research in automated learning applications for Earth Sciences. This position provides the opportunity to contribute to the development of an open science platform that supports the transparent, repetitive and developed workflow to predict the regional climate and assign extreme events. The chosen candidate will work within the framework of the expected European project, which focuses on improving prediction and understanding regional climate changes and matching through advanced climate simulation, land notes and machine learning.

The open science platform aims to enable the climate science community by providing access to tools and resources that can be accessed, including data processing pipelines, aid learning model training code, local models, standards, and evaluation protocols. This platform plays an important role in building the ability of data science and enhancing cooperation between researchers through disciplines.

The Training or Bachelor’s Training Project will provide practical experience in developing and maintaining the workflow of frequent data science, contributing to open source warehouses, and supporting automated learning integration in climate science applications. The role provides a multidisciplinary dynamic environment with close cooperation between climate scientists, data engineers and automated learning researchers.

Main duties

The development and maintenance of open source warehouses contains data processing pipelines, automated learning training texts, and models assessment tools related to climate forecasting and attributing extreme events. Contribute to designing and implementing the process of reproductive data, ensuring transparency and ease of use for the broader climate science community. Cooperation with climate scientists and automated learning experts to integrate models and data groups into the statute, adapting tools to various cases of use and research needs. Documentation of pre -models, standard data groups, and evaluation protocols, which makes them accessible and easy to use by external researchers. Supporting the publication and maintenance of the open science platform, including release control, continuous integration, and the basic basic system test. Participated in the meetings and efforts of the expected collaborative consortium and with external users to collect comments and improve the ability to use for the platform and the scientific value. Education registered in the undergraduate or master’s program in computer science, mathematics, data science, environmental science, or a related field. Basic knowledge and professional experience strong programming skills in Bethon and familiarity with machine learning libraries such as Pytorch, Tensorflow, or Scikit-Learn. Experience in dealing with large data groups, analyzing and verifying them. Experience in developing and training automated learning models.
