Role

The College of Humanities invites requests for a full -time colleague in the post -PhD period to join the ERC Advanced/Oukri Horizon, ‘Mwlit: The Medieval March of Wales, C. 1282-1550 ‘. The project, which began in 2023, creates a cultural history of the border lands in the Middle Ages between Wales and England by creating a database for people, places and manuscripts associated with the march. The site will contain Prosopography and an original series of MARCHER digital maps. PDRA will join a current team working with the main investigator, Professor Helen Volton, to contribute to the database and create the site content. This role is specified for a period of 9 months (December 1, 2025 to August 31, 2026) and is required to work with the project team personally at the University of Bristol.

What will you do?

• It effectively contributes to the research project by helping in the project database, with a special responsibility for the manuscript record for translations and adaptation from French to central Welsh.
• Help fill the site by building a group of ginary employees.
• Do archival research on Marcher’s societies and circulation of Welsh manuscripts and early printed books in Welsh, French, Latin and English.
• Conducting research on Wales translations in the Middle Ages and French literature modifications.
• Submit papers in conferences and seminars.
• Work with searching for it to develop and fill the project site

You must apply if

Requests are pushed by candidates with a doctorate in Welsh literature in the Middle Ages, with safe knowledge of medium Welsh language, literature and fluency in at least one romantic language. You must have an existing experience in receiving and translating French medieval novels in Wales in the Middle Ages based on a strong record of research after doctorate, publications, and grant capture. It is necessary to try working with Wales in the Middle Ages, French and Latin. Some knowledge of digital technologies, especially databases and web sites, is desirable.
