We are proud to be part of the nationally managed Maternity Quality and Safety Program (MQSP) – a cornerstone of continuous improvement in maternity services across Aotearoa.

We are looking for a passionate and experienced midwife to lead the MQSP coordination at Te Matau in Maui Hawkes Bay.

In this role, you will be at the heart of our efforts to improve mama, baby and whānau outcomes. You will work collaboratively with clinical teams, consumer representatives, and national stakeholders to deliver evidence-based improvements, drive innovation, and ensure our services reflect the needs of our community.

You will also lead clinical audits, produce the annual clinical report, and support the implementation of quality and safety initiatives across the maternity service.

About the team/service/site

You will be based in the Maternity Service at Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital, and will work closely with the Chief Midwife, Te Kaihaukura Māori Midwife Leader, midwifery teams, consumer representatives, clinical staff and wider support staff.

Our service is guided by the Te Mauri o Rongo and Hau Te Kura review, which emphasizes culturally safe and whānau-centred care and equality for Māori and Pasifika.

About you

You are a registered midwife with a strong background in clinical practice and a passion for improving maternity outcomes. You will attend:

  • Current New Zealand Midwifery Annual Practice Certificate (APC).
  • At least 5 years of relevant midwifery experience.
  • Postgraduate qualification or study in a related field (eg, quality improvement, leadership, public health).
  • Proven skills in project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and clinical governance.
  • Confidence in interpreting data, writing reports, and leading audits.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally safe practices.
  • Required: Knowledge of the political and legislative landscape of the health sectors, and the experience of the leadership teams within the sector.
