Description of the situation
Fermilab Seeks outstanding applicants for postdoctoral degree Research participant A position at the interface of cosmological surveying science and artificial intelligence/machine learning. This position is aimed at exceptional recent PhD holders who have a proven research record of prior experience in observational cosmology, artificial intelligence/machine learning, and/or related fields. Fermilab is actively involved in the Vera C. Rubin Observatory Space and Time Legacy Survey (LSST) and Dark Energy Science Collaboration (LSST DESC). Fermilab is also the lead institution for the Dark Energy Survey (DES) and a founding member of the Dark Energy Spectroscopy Instrument (DESI). This postdoctoral position will provide the opportunity to integrate new AI/ML techniques into the operation and analysis of world-leading astronomical observatories.
The position is for a period of up to three (3) years, with the possibility of considering the possibility of extension on an annual basis thereafter. The position comes with a competitive salary and excellent benefits.

Responsibilities:
• Publishing scientific papers based on the analysis of cosmological data.
• Follow up studies of dark energy and dark matter through cosmic surveys
• Integrating AI/ML into experimental processes and/or cosmological analyses
• Presenting work at scientific conferences, workshops and reviews.
• Contributing to scientific activities at the Fermilab Center for Cosmic Physics.
Basic qualifications and job tasks:
• Ph.D. in physics, astrophysics or a related subject.
• Demonstrate the ability to conduct independent research.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentations for large international scientific collaborations and conferences.
Physical activity and working conditions
Human factors: Mental focus, sitting, standing, and a tight work schedule.
Additionally, the ability to travel by automobile and/or commercial air carriers domestically and internationally may be required.
