Department Head/Professor Tennessee Technological University
The Department Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering provides leadership to the department in setting and achieving goals and objectives that achieve the department’s mission and align with the strategic priorities of the college and university.
Basic functions
Provides leadership to the department in setting and achieving realistic goals and objectives that achieve the department’s mission and align with the strategic priorities of the college and university. Serves as an effective communication channel between the department, the Dean of Engineering, and the university administration. Manages the department’s finances and is responsible for maintaining the integrity of academic programs. Manages departmental resources, administers faculty and staff evaluations, and is responsible for the greater good of the department. represents Economic Commission for Europe Faculty members in meetings with college and university administration and the department advisory board. Promotes the professional development of faculty, staff, and students. Maintains appropriate levels of teaching, graduate student advising, scholarly and research activities and participation in professional and public service activities. Maintains and builds strong relationships with industry and community stakeholders. Partners with development officers in fundraising and alumni engagement.
Minimum qualifications
PhD from an accredited institution in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field. Evidence of effective teaching, scholarly productivity, career-level achievements, and the ability to create and build strong financial partnerships. Ability to obtain the rank of full professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with students, colleagues, staff, and other individuals on and off campus. Ability to communicate effectively. Demonstrate good character, professional ethics, maturity of attitudes, experience in teamwork, and strong familiarity with aspects relevant to the Engineering Department. A track record of sustained external funding for the research program throughout the candidate’s career. Commitment to undergraduate student success, community engagement, and fostering a collaborative culture. Ability to identify opportunities, set priorities, and lead innovative strategic efforts critical to the success of the college’s academic programs.
Preferred qualifications
Administrative and administrative experience. A strong record of excellence in teaching and research. Non-academic professional or industrial experience. Driving experience. Experience in relevant accreditation activity, professional community, and public service experience.
