PhD in physiology and pharmacy
Project title: Imagine the vital composition of the platelets: the internal photography of the major cell signal in the actual time (UK duties only)
Supervisors: Dr. Alex Bey and Professor John Gibins
Project overview:
This doctoral project provides an exciting opportunity to explore how to produce platelets – blood cells necessary for clotting – in the body. Platelet transfers are vital for patients with trauma or cancer, but platelet production in the laboratory is still a major challenge. This research will look at how to classify major cells, the large bone marrow cells responsible for the production of platelets, in the body using advanced imaging techniques.
Using genetically modified mice that allow tracing cellular signals in actual time, the project will explore how huge cells respond during platelet formation and how diseases such as long length can change this process. The goal is to better understand the biology of platelet production and improve the laboratory -based methods to generate platelets for transportation.
What is the matter
You will be trained in a wide range of advanced technologies, including microscopic examination of living and microscopy, images analysis, cell flow measurement, and cell culture. The project includes a cooperative training in Importal College London with Professor Christina Le Silsu, internationally recognized for their experience in photographing the bone marrow environment.
