PERI UP system supports cladding treatment at Hilton Hotel
TThe Hilton Hotel in Kingston upon Thames is undergoing major cladding remediation works to meet updated fire safety standards, with PERI’s hybrid scaffolding solution playing a key role in the safe and efficient delivery of the project.
Main contractor Hamilton specified the scaffolding system from the beginning to create the safest working environment and support a tight schedule for the program. Assemble Scaffolding, the engineering and development company for the project, selected PERI UP Easy as the platform due to its speed of installation and built-in safety features.
The system’s built-in guard rail hook allows advanced fall protection to be installed from a level below, while lightweight standards reduce the risk of manual handling. The modular construction sequence also supports faster assembly, helping the team maintain progress across the hotel’s seven-storey façade.
One of the most complex aspects of the job was maintaining guest access through the hotel’s main entrance, as scaffolding could not be fixed to the ground. The design engineers at Prime Scaffold and Structural Designs (PSD) developed a custom solution to redistribute loads through bracing at each lift, transferring the weight to adjacent standards.

For the first lift, engineers combined PERI UP Easy components with Flex to create the necessary clearance. This allowed subsequent two-metre-long easy lifts to be safely fitted around the rest of the structure.
A hybrid approach was also adopted at the rear of the building, where air vents and columns had to remain accessible. Here, PERI UP is combined with pipe sleepers and traditional fittings to maintain constant access while navigating obstacles.
Thomas Bellis, Design Director and Senior Scaffolding Design Engineer at PSD, said the project demonstrated the versatility and engineering advantages of the PERI UP Easy system.

“The system’s wide range of compatible components enabled us to develop a scaffold design that was not only structurally strong, but was also effective in configuring around the building’s changing profile,” He explained. “We were able to quickly adapt to evolving requirements without compromising safety or buildability.”
The project highlights how state-of-the-art system scaffolding can combine modular design and adaptable engineering to meet the challenges of complex renovation works while maintaining full site safety and operational access.
