🔥 PhD participant – OpenBind at Diamond Light Source

explained

about us

The source of diamond light is the National Science Facility in the United Kingdom. By accelerating the electrons to the speed of light, Diamond generates great symptoms of light infrared to X -rays that are used for academic and industrial research and development through a set of scientific disciplines including structural biology, physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering and environmental science.

About the role

In June 2025, Department of Science, Innovation and Technology in the United Kingdom (DSIT) I announced an investment of 8 million pounds Through the sovereign intelligence unit to create an OpenBind initiative -a leading initiative hosts in Diamond Light Source to revolutionize the discovery of AI’s drugs. OpenBind will create the largest open data collection in the world of protein crystals associated with convergence measurements, and targets more than 500,000 data sets in five years-an increase in a twenty-ray on all data available to the public created in the last century.

The historical data collection will address the critical bottleneck in pharmaceutical research and development: the scarcity of wide and high -quality data that links small particles to protein goals. By integrating automatic chemistry, protein engineering, highly productive crystals, and advanced AI/ML models, OpenBind aims to cancel the insurance of a new era of obstetric drug design-which allows previously reasonable diseases and reduce the cost of the development of the drug and its timeline significantly.

We are looking for talented and driven scholars to join the OpenBind team in Diamond Light Source. The appointed will contribute to generating super productivity and spreading the crystal structures of protein, protein and rapprochement data, and helps to develop new methodologies to expand this workflow. Successful candidates will cooperate closely with an international consortium from senior researchers to design the first experiences of the counseling of automated learning.

The appointed will:

  • Full merging into the culture of both the Diamond Research Team and the broader OpenBind.
  • Hand in highly highly productive protein crystals and ensure rapid and high -quality data.
  • Develop and implement new methodologies to expand the scope of highly productive crystal work in order to restore.
  • Ensure that structural outputs are suitable for training and measuring ML models.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the search proposal in the detailed manner in the job description supplement.
  • Participate in internal scientific and administrative meetings with collaborators with a consortium.
  • It leads or contributes to analyzing the results and publishing them in the international magazines that the peers reviewed.

About you

It will carry a relevant doctorate and show proven scientific and technical experience. You should be strict, cooperative and adaptive, with excellent connections and organizational skills. A direct experience in photographing highly productive crystals and artificial intelligence/mm is very desirable.

You can have:

  • A strong interest in accelerating the discovery of drugs by generating a huge high -quality protein structure and convergence data groups.
  • Experience in highly productive and mechanical crystal photography platforms.
  • A proactive approach to developing and improving developed methodologies.
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management, and records.
  • The enthusiasm for work in the scientific teams of multidisciplinary and cooperation on a large scale.

benefits

Diamond offers an exceptional benefits package to support employees in achieving a positive balance in work/life. This includes the annual leave for 26 days, in addition to the closure of Christmas, public holidays, annual voluntary days and flexible working hours. We also offer the premium pension chart. Employees can also access a set of amenities on the site including custody, cafes, restaurant, sports and entertainment facilities. Transport allowance may also be available when necessary.
