The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks two tenure-track positions at all ranks with an outstanding academic record and exceptional potential for innovative research in biomedical engineering. In addition, a candidate whose research in their fields complements the department’s existing strengths in tissue/biomaterials engineering, cellular engineering, neuroengineering, biomechanics, biomedical imaging and optics, and precision medical technologies will be of particular interest. The candidate’s research must have clear implications for improving human health. The ideal candidate will be interested in working collaboratively with centers and existing faculty in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and across campus.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering in the UW-Madison College of Engineering includes approximately 700 undergraduate students and 120 master’s and doctoral graduate students from around the world. The department has 24 primary colleges, 62 affiliated colleges, 5 teaching colleges, 3 honors colleges, 16 staff, with government expenditure exceeding 2 million per year and research expenditure exceeding 10 million per year. The University of Wisconsin-Madison has a long history of interdisciplinary collaboration between departments and colleges. The faculty member appointed to this specialty area will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with clinical and basic sciences faculty in the College, the College of Medicine and Public Health, the College of Pharmacy, the College of Nursing, and the College of Veterinary Medicine, as well as from multiple research centers at UW-Madison, including the Carbon Cancer Center, the Center for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine, the Center for Cardiovascular Research, and the McPherson Institute For eye research.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and contributing to curriculum updates and innovations to educate a diverse student body. Guiding graduate students and supervising their research; Develop and direct a recognized and externally funded research programme; Participate in faculty governance in departments and universities; Contributing to professional and public service; Participate in interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts with other departments, schools, and colleges.

Candidates will have a demonstrated record of academic achievement such as peer-reviewed publications and grant awards appropriate to the level of appointment, exceptional potential in establishing a world-class research program in areas relevant to BME, and a commitment to high-quality undergraduate and graduate teaching. Candidates for Associate Professor and Full Professor must have experience and scholarly credentials that meet the tenure standards of the UW-Madison Departmental Committee and the College of Engineering.

PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences or related field, with demonstrated excellence in research and teaching.
