Sanctuary, a global leader in building AI-based control systems for humanoid robots, is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Robotics Control Engineer. The Robotics Control Engineer is an important part of our team, supporting the development and improvement of our control software suite. You will contribute to the code base that connects our motion control suite to real-time and embedded systems.

The best candidates for this role have an excellent background in robotics control theory, programming skills, and practical experience implementing control algorithms on hardware, as well as writing interfaces to robotics systems.

Success criteria

• Write, document, deploy and maintain software to control robot movement
• Understand the current control software suite and suggest incremental improvements
• Develop intuitive APIs that balance the needs of different stakeholders
• Bring hands-on experience in software and hardware debugging of complex robotics systems
• Gain experience designing control systems that support different input sources (e.g., teleoperation, learned policies, motion planners)
• Effectively evaluates the impact of different solution approaches on system performance, especially with regard to timing and resource constraints

Qualifications

• Master’s or Ph.D. in robotics or a related field (computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, etc.) or equivalent industry experience
• Proven experience writing software to control robot on hardware

skills

• Controls experience working with multi-body rigid robotic systems
• Software development skills. Able to write efficient, scalable and maintainable code in C++ and Python to control the robot
• Experience with at least one kinematics and dynamics library for robots (e.g., Pinocchio, Drake, Mujoco, etc.)
• Strong understanding of ROS2
• Experience working on complex software packages as part of a team
• Familiarity with documentation and project management tools such as Confluence and Jira is an asset
• Knowledge of ros2_control is an asset
• Experience in route optimization, optimal planning and control is an asset
• Experience in using real-time solutions to a range of convex and non-convex problems (particular attention to QPs, SQPs, MIPs and SDPs) is an asset
• Experience with off-the-shelf robotic devices is an asset
• Experience in control reinforcement learning is an asset

About Sanctuary AI
