The NBCUniversal News legal team supports NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC, E! News, local NBCU and Telemundo Network. Editorial lawyers work closely with journalists and editorial leadership to provide timely, practical and strategic advice to support our growing journalism and news business.

Headquartered in Miami, Telemundo produces and distributes premium Spanish-language news content to Hispanic Americans and audiences worldwide. Its flagship evening news program is Noticias Telemundo. Telemundo’s station group consists of 30 local television stations in the United States and Puerto Rico. It serves the largest Hispanic television markets in the country.

The consultant will serve as a news content and media advocate for the newsgroup. The role is primarily dedicated to supporting the Telemundo Network and Telemundo Station Group newsrooms on Spanish language content, with additional consulting for NBC News, MSNBC and CNBC.

Key Responsibilities:
• Advise editorial leadership and journalists working across platforms including linear television, live, digital, social and audio, to support daily news, commentary, investigative reporting, documentaries, entertainment, lifestyle, true crime, financial journalism and non-scripted programming
• Conduct pre-broadcast and pre-publication review
• Providing advice on news gathering and access issues
• Consultant on copyright and other intellectual property matters
• Provide advice on and respond to pre- and post-deployment threats and challenges
• Respond to subpoenas and other third party requests for information
• Formulate and deliver legal training for the newsroom
• Providing advice on legal and regulatory matters relating to, among other topics, sponsored editorial content, e-commerce, and elections
• Implement and advise on newsgroup policies that protect our integrity, accuracy, and independence
• Monitor legal developments affecting journalism and freedom of expression
• Partnering with specialty attorneys across NBCUniversal’s legal department, including news-related litigation
• Contribute to an inclusive, collaborative and creative team culture

Qualifications

Basic requirements:
• Proficiency in the Spanish language
• Law degree required
• A member in good standing of the Florida State Bar or registered as in-house counsel
• 4 years of legal experience, including experience advising news clients on media law and publishing issues

• High level of integrity and professionalism
• Solid writing, analytical and problem-solving skills

Hybrid: This position is classified as hybrid, and generally contributes from the office a minimum of four days per week.

Salary Range: $140,000 – $170,000 for Consultant (eligible for bonus and long-term incentives).
