Postgraduate Research Assistant (PGRA) ECORES WIND Horizon Project at Oxford Brookes University

This is a full-time, fixed-term, externally funded position for 14 months from the start date.

General purpose of the position: To build and deploy LCA models for wind energy systems incorporating wind turbines under a range of alternative scenarios specifically related to end-of-life (EoL) management, reuse and recycling.

The post holder will also be required to conduct extensive literature searches to inform the model and determine key model parameters, and will be expected to contribute to the dissemination of project results through peer-reviewed journal papers and/or conference proceedings.

You will be responsible for:

  • To communicate with other ECORES-WIND project partners, both in academia and industry, and to enable rapid and effective sharing of information and modeling results within the project consortium.
  • Conduct an extensive review of previous literature on life cycle assessment of wind energy systems.
  • Lead the development of a full set of detailed LCA models for corresponding wind energy scenarios, taking into account the use of innovative recyclable resins, and associated dismantling, reuse and EOL recycling options.
  • Conduct a set of sensitivity analyzes on the LCA models mentioned above (to be determined under supervisory guidance).
  • Contributing to writing research and helping to prepare it for publication at the level of quality required by the Research Excellence Framework (REF).
  • Participate in the personal development and annual review process, and actively contribute to the research culture of the department.
  • Carry out any other duties as required by line manager/mentor within assigned grade expectation.

You must have:

  • Master’s degree, PhD, or equivalent in Materials Science and Engineering or any other related scientific or engineering discipline, and you must have a strong background in sustainability and life cycle assessment.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Good communication skills and proficiency in written and spoken English is required.

Experience required for the job: The work requires PGRA to carry out potential life cycle assessment scenarios for wind turbines made using recyclable resins as part of the Horizon project “ECORES-WIND”, Grant Agreement No. 101148066, “Development of new cyclic resin for wind blade composites”.
