Research Fellow in Artificial Intelligence for Modeling Electronic Systems at the University of Edinburgh
Full time: 35 hours per week
Fixed term: 36 months
Opportunity:
This position is linked to the UKRI APRIL AI Hub which aspires to develop AI tools to accelerate innovation across semiconductor technologies, new microchip designs and systems engineering – leading to faster, cheaper, greener and more energy efficient electronics overall. As one of nine UKRI-funded AI centres, this is a highly visible program at both national and international levels.
The job holder will work closely with a team of talented researchers and the APRIL Operations team to lead the development of new AI capabilities, tools and methodologies that can enhance the productivity of engineers in the design, development and testing of advanced electronic devices and systems. More specifically, the job holder must have experience building “digital twins” to model the performance of devices/systems, with input from automated testing procedures. The research extends from automated operations of new and emerging semiconductor devices to efficient modeling of complex electronic circuits and architectures. The underlying physical mechanism is automatically decoded outside of CMOS devices.
The post holder will have the ability to engage with world-leading experts in AI and electronics in Edinburgh and at other UK Higher Education (HE) institutions but also with industrial partners to ensure the relevance of their research in tackling the latest challenges in electronics.
The successful candidate will have experience of project development and project leadership in a research context, along with excellent communication, presentation and organizational skills. They will enjoy working in a dynamic environment and will be able to work on their own initiative as well as being an active member of the team. The role will report to the APRIL Center Director (Principal Investigator), with ongoing engagement with other researchers in the Center as well as academic leaders.
Your skills and attributes for success:
- A1street University degree and PhD in Electronics, Artificial Intelligence, or a clearly related field, with a demonstrated connection to electronic systems modeling, or a closely related field or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience in AI tools to automate electronic systems modeling and experience in electronics and instrumentation testing.
- A proven track record of research in the field of artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on electronic systems modeling or a closely related field.
- Experience presenting results of research projects in electronic systems modeling and/or artificial intelligence context. For example, a record of peer-reviewed journals and conference papers in the relevant field.
- Ability to adapt, accept new ideas, be prepared to face new challenges, and adjust plans to meet new priorities.
