The University of Georgia Libraries is seeking an innovative, service-oriented individual to fill the position of GIL/GALILEO Systems Librarian. This College Librarian position reports to the Director of GIL/GALILEO Technical Support Services at the University of Georgia Libraries campus in Athens. This position will serve as a member of the GIL team and will serve as the library subject and ILS workflow expert for the GIL team, and as a liaison between GIL staff and GIL member libraries, working with all levels of library staff across the state in identifying and investigating system issues and improvements. This position participates in various statewide groups involved in specific development tasks related to ILS systems. They will engage in professional activity and serve on library, university and statewide committees and initiatives. This role will require close collaboration with colleagues in and outside the libraries.
GALILEO is an acronym for the Georgia Online Learning Library, an initiative of the Board of Trustees of the University System of Georgia. GALILEO is an online library portal for reliable, subscription-only information. The Galileo System includes more than 2,000 institutions, including universities and colleges of the University System of Georgia and the Technical College System of Georgia as well as Georgia K-12 schools and public libraries.
GIL stands for GALILEO Interconnected Libraries, an integrated library management system for acquiring, cataloguing, accessing, and distributing USG institutional collections. GIL uses Ex Libris’s integrated library system software, which is hosted in the cloud by Ex Libris. In addition to each library’s catalogs and library services, each institution has access to the “Consortium” display, with the holdings of all GIL participants. With this offer, a GIL Express request (borrowing books from another USG library) is initiated. GIL Applications Support staff are located at UGA (supporting 27 US Government organizations).
