Research Officer at Bangor University

Applications are invited for a full-time, fixed-term Research Officer working in the Nuclear Futures Institute within the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Bangor University.

The Research Officer will conduct research related to neutrons and basic design of molten salt reactors. Duties will include safety analysis of the graphite-free high temperature reactor (FHR) system (WP3) being investigated in this project. This includes salt freeze prevention, decomposition heat removal analysis, and online refueling strategy evaluation. and experimental design for refueling safety including heat transfer modeling, flow analysis, and stringer drop simulation.

Candidates must have a PhD in Reactor Physics (or be close to completion) or have equivalent experience relevant to the role, and have previous experience simulating nuclear systems using multi-physics modeling approaches.

The successful candidate is expected to start as soon as possible and the role is available until 31 May 2028.

This role will be based on the Bangor campus. Within our dynamic framework, there will also be the option to spend some time working remotely (despite remaining in the UK) to support work-life balance, which will be discussed further with candidates at interview.
