The energy revolution is sweeping the world: 92% of new energy added last year came from renewables – much of it from low-cost wind and solar.

Meanwhile, in Ontario, renewables are in decline while Doug Ford locks us into high-cost US nuclear reactors, enriched uranium imports from the US, and more dirty gas. This means higher hydro bills, dirtier air, and a less secure energy future as the world leaps toward smart, low-cost energy.

Ontarians deserve clean, affordable energy, too. But unless people know what is at stake, we will remain stuck in the dirty energy of yesterday while others move on.

Who are we?

The Ontario Clean Air Alliance (OCAA) led the successful campaign to phase out Ontario’s five dirty coal-fired power plants. We are now working to move Ontario to a 100% renewable energy grid.

The role

Your role on our team will be to produce engaging, accurate and useful content that highlights how renewable energy is taking the world by storm.

It will build a narrative around the opportunities for Ontario (and Toronto) to transition to an affordable, safe, renewable electricity future rather than building American nuclear reactors and importing enriched uranium and dirty gas from the United States.

The goal of your work is to inform and engage the younger generation/young adults in our cause, in a way that inspires optimism, conversation and action.

Ideally, you live in the GTA.

Responsibilities

Your hours will be divided between:

• Bring content summaries to life assigned by our communications staff
• Promote and produce content that leverages popular voices and memes to communicate our organization’s ideas in new, youth-targeted and accessible ways
• Drive page reach and growth through off-page engagement with relevant content (watching videos, liking, commenting)
• Format relevant content to republish on our page
• Build relationships with relevant creatives and potential collaborators
• Stay up to date on current trends and engagement strategies

expertise

You know the TikTok platform. I’ve grown up with it. You follow change makers and idea makers.

You have experience creating content for yourself or your clients that speaks to a well-defined audience and built around well-defined goals. You know how to build engagement while keeping it real, and how to measure success.

You are not an expert on the subject. We will help you understand the materials and messages we want you to communicate. You can take it from there and feel more comfortable presenting your own idea over time.

compensation

$30 per hour, 20 hours per week. The initial contract will be renewed for six months if it proves successful.
