This position is responsible for planning and evaluating a high-quality campus athletics and recreation program with a focus on student success. This position provides leadership and management in the development, implementation and evaluation of an annual operating plan and long-term business plan to enhance student retention, student-athlete recruitment, community relations and public relations.
Administrative responsibilities include: annual budget request process, program development, evaluation and review, personnel management, budget and inventory control, development and implementation of policies and procedures, and compliance monitoring. This position works with the Green River Foundation to onboard all assistant athletic trainers and coordinate fundraising efforts. Work with internal departments to ensure the academic success of the student-athlete population.
Position Responsibilities Provide leadership and direction in developing short- and long-term plans for a comprehensive recreation program serving 5,500 full-time students.
The Department Coordinator assists in collecting and interpreting recommendations and coordinating programs for the Recreation and Athletics Department.
Ensures compliance with policies and procedures established by Green River College, Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC), and Washington State and Federal guidelines.
Work with the ASGRC Finance Committee to develop annual budget proposals and program operations for all varsity sports, recreational sports, and fitness recreation programs.
Responsible for the financial oversight of the department by monitoring budget status and managing equipment purchases and generating revenue opportunities and needs.
Oversee the scheduling of all sports competitions and practices: Oversee travel arrangements; Coordinate the management and administration of events; Provide oversight of all home sporting events, including assisting visiting teams and serving as event safety coordinator.
Identify and award scholarships and waivers for tuition assistance in accordance with NWAC regulations and college availability.
Collaborate with the Green River College Foundation to develop and implement fundraising activities.
Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate full-time sports and recreation staff.
Recruiting, supervising and evaluating head coaches. Coordinate payroll schedules for coaches, game management, work study students and volunteer assistant coaches.
Assist head coaches with student recruitment and admissions processes and, in coordination with the Registrar’s Office, complete NWAC-required student-athlete eligibility reports.
Track and evaluate students’ academic progress. Ensure and emphasize the academic success of student-athletes by developing and enhancing GRC support services to include tutoring, academic advising, and other retention strategies.
Promotion of the Athletic Director’s Academic Honor Roll.
Be responsible for the integrity of the Recreation and Athletics program which includes oversight of inventory purchasing, fiscal responsibility and revenue generation.
Serve as the official spokesperson for the Sports and Recreation Department by marketing and promoting all sports and entertainment programs at the college.
Coordinate the use of sports facilities with recreation and physical education staff.
Initiates contracts for use of off-campus facilities with Kent Parks, Auburn Parks, Puyallup Parks, local school districts, and other external business partners.
He works as a technical consultant for recreational sports clubs and fitness trainers.
Provides risk management practices in the entertainment industry, ensuring all safety rules, regulations and procedures are followed. Ensures that all employees are trained in safety procedures.
Serve as one of two commissioners for the NWAC and any Athletic Committee assignments as needed.
Work with the Green River International Program department to develop recreational opportunities that will engage international students.
Work strategically to mark the program to supervise students. Maintain and update college policies including Finance Code 522 which relates to the administration of the intercollegiate athletics and campus recreation program; Submit required annual compliance reports to state and federal agencies. Ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines on gender equity in athletics. Serve as a member of GRC’s Cleary Compliance Committee. Get involved with Green River’s Student Affairs Leadership Team. Coordinate with conference service staff for calendar scheduling and use of gym facilities.
Master’s degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, Health and Recreation Physical Education and/or 3+ years of professional experience in Sports Management or equivalent in the field.
Sports training background.
Familiarity with group admissions, recruitment, and financial aid processes.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
