Research Fellow in Ice Sheet Modeling at Northumbria University

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral researcher For a three-year position in Numerical modeling of the world’s ice sheets. The role is part of Accurate: predicting climate change and the impact of mitigation solutionsan international collaboration led by Niels Bohr Institute And funded by Novo Nordisk Foundation.

About the role

You will run Large-scale simulation of ice flow in Greenland and AntarcticaAnd explore how these ice sheets evolve in a warming climate. By applying numerical and analytical methods, you will investigate complex interactions between ice, atmosphere and ocean systems.

Research topics within the project include (but are not limited to):

  • Mass balance reactions to surface elevation
  • Childbirth operations
  • Instability of the sea ice sheet

While you will work with Established ice flow modelYou will be encouraged to work with the team in Northumbria Develop and test new ideasand improve the physical representation of important processes within existing modeling frameworks.

Research environment

You will join Northumbria University The future of ice on Earth Research groupone of the largest and most active ice sheet modeling communities in the world. The project provides opportunities for close collaboration with international partners, participating in scientific project meetings and presenting your work at leading conferences and workshops.

About you

We welcome applications from candidates with a strong interest in climate science and ice dynamics. You must have:

  • background in Physics, applied mathematics, earth sciences, or any related discipline
  • Skills in Numerical modeling, programming and dealing with large data sets
  • Attention b Nonlinear dynamics and complex systems
  • Motivation to contribute to key scientific questions about climate change and the future of the Earth
