Carbon Reduction Project Manager – Chichester District Council
The successful applicant will lead a small team to deliver the Council’s Climate Emergency Action Plan 2025-2030. The plan covers projects to reduce council greenhouse gas emissions and a variety of projects to help individuals and organizations in the area reduce their emissions. To give you a flavor, projects include:
- Helping families improve the energy efficiency of their homes and install renewable energy
- Developing a Climate Action Network that supports environmental community groups in our region to grow and plant more groups
- Exploring how more carbon dioxide can be stored in the region’s coastal and marine habitats
- Collaborate with other local authorities in the local energy plan
- Work with other local authorities to analyze what climate adaptation steps need to be taken locally.
The plan will be delivered largely through collaboration either with other teams on the council or with external organisations. You will need excellent knowledge of climate change mitigation and adaptation issues and wider sustainability considerations. You must be able to juggle multiple projects at the same time. Climate change is a high-profile issue for the council and the office holder will attend committee meetings and other public events. Excellent writing skills are required as well as strong numeracy and Excel skills as the Council’s carbon footprint is calculated internally.
You must have a degree in environmental science, carbon management or a related engineering discipline, or a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a relevant sector, such as carbon management, sustainability, sustainable building services engineering, and the renewable energy industry.
You will work within the Council’s dynamic Environmental Strategy team and will be based in the scenic cathedral city of Chichester, with the opportunity to do some homework where required.
