Haverford College invites applications for a part-time (17 hours per week), exempt, non-qualifying position of Assistant Throws Coach and Track and Field opportunity.

About the Job Reporting to the Men’s Track & Field Head Coach and Women’s Track & Field Head Coach, the Assistant Throws Coach will be responsible for coaching and leading the throws program, adhering to all NCAA, Centennial Conference and college rules. The ideal candidate will have a high level of experience in technical development and training of throwers (weight throw, shot put, discus throw, hammer throw and javelin throw), along with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to conduct well-organised, purposeful training sessions under the supervision of head coaches.
The Assistant Shots Coach for Track and Field must understand the role of intercollegiate athletics within a rigorous academic environment, possess strong communication skills, and work effectively within the administrative structure of the teams and department. The Assistant Throws Coach will work collaboratively with the full track and field staff and must be committed to promoting a positive and inclusive team environment. The ideal candidate will effectively build and maintain strong relationships with faculty, staff, alumni and student-athletes. They will mentor student-athletes with maturity and integrity and serve as a positive role model. The candidate must possess strong leadership skills and have a clear understanding of the concepts, applications and philosophies of collegiate track and field. Duties may include, but are not limited to, practice planning, recruiting, and other responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach.
Essential Responsibilities • Plan and implement practices and meet preparations for men’s and women’s throwing events • Provide technical instruction in all throwing events (weight throw, shot put, discus, hammer, and javelin) • Collaborate with strength and conditioning staff to design and monitor event-specific strength development • Assist with recruiting efforts, including identifying and evaluating potential student-athletes, communicating with recruits, and hosting visits • Exercise discretion and judgment in decision making in accordance with NCAA, conference, and college policies • Represent Haverford College in a professional manner in all interactions, including with student-athletes, parents, officials, alumni, and opposing coaches • Assist in enforcing team standards related to conduct, training, and travel • Assist with program logistical and administrative duties as assigned by head coaches
REPORTING LINE: Assistant Shots Coach, Track and Field, reports to the Head Men’s Track and Field Coach and the Women’s Track and Field Head Coach.
Minimum qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree

• Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing recruitment and retention of student-athletes
• Knowledge and understanding of the sport, and sport-specific certification, as applicable
• Collaborative mentality
• Commitment to supporting students from diverse cultural backgrounds

• Proven commitment to personal growth and learning
• Adherence to college, Department of Athletics, Centennial Conference, and NCAA policies and regulations
• Ability to interact in a sensitive, courteous, and understanding manner with members of a diverse academic community, including students, faculty, staff, and the general public
• The ability to deal with sensitive matters confidentially
Preferred qualifications
• First Aid/CPR/AED certificate
• Experience working with college student athletes
