Applications are invited for a PhD scholarship in Synthetic and physical organic chemistry Available from October 2026, to work under supervision Dr. Daniel Congreve In the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford.

The scholarship will cover course fees at the take-home rate and provide a stipend of at least the UK Research Council standard rate (currently set at £20,780 per annum) for 4 years.

The scholarship is funded by the European Research Council. The research is interdisciplinary and will include the design, synthesis and study of new organic luminescent materials. The aim is to make fundamental advances to facilitate the production of a new generation of materials that have implications in a wide range of applications, especially optoelectronics (such as solar panels, sensing and displays).

Candidates with a first-class undergraduate degree or a strong second-class undergraduate degree in Chemistry are encouraged to apply. Candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to research and demonstrate the ability to learn new skills independently. Experience in synthetic chemistry is highly desirable. Successful applicants will be based in a chemistry research laboratory in Oxford.
