Teaching colleague in creative writing (prose) at Edinburgh University

part time: 17.5 hours a week

Fixed term: Holding two years (available from January 2026)

Opportunity:

Applications are called for the position of early job teaching colleague in creative writing (prose).

The successful candidate will contribute primarily to the teaching of a master’s degree in creative writing (imagination and seminars workshops) and literature courses (‘like the works of stories’), and supervising the theses of graduate studies. They will also contribute to optional courses for creative writing (prose imagination) and may oversee university theses as required. They will contribute to teaching relevant management in the field of the topic.

In particular, we welcome the requests submitted by the candidates with research experience in one or more of the following areas that have been determined as existing strengths or emerging in the field of English and Scottish literature: digital humanities; Economic humanities; Environmental Humanities; Health humanities; LGBTQ+studies; Post -colonial literary studies and/or transit national and/or diaspora.

We welcome the requests submitted to this position from all qualified candidates and in particular we welcome the requests submitted by members of the ethnic minorities, who are currently active representatives in the College of Arts, Languages ​​and Cultures.

Your skills and success:

  • A doctoral degree in a related field, is granted at the time of submitting the application.
  • Master of Creative Writing
  • Experience or clear ability to teach creative writing (prose) in the context of the Department of English Literary Studies.
  • Experience in university teaching and/or graduate studies, including the design of educational subjects for classrooms.
  • Experience in the status of signs and evaluation of students ’performance at the level of university and/or postgraduate studies.
  • Experience in overseeing university theses and/or postgraduate studies.
  • Experience in the use of information technology effectively to teach and learning, in proportion to the role.
