The construction begins to decline with the stumbling of housing confidence
The UK’s construction industry faces a renewed decrease, according to the last Glenigan construction index.
The report, which reviews the project in the three months before the end of September 2025, explains that the total activity has decreased sharply, reflecting the gains that were seen earlier in the year.
The work decreased from projects worth less than 100 million pounds – which is considered the “basic” activity in the industry – by 16 % compared to the previous three months, and remained 15 % in the same period in 2024.
The residential buildings sector was more difficult, as it decreased by more than a quarter compared to the previous quarter and a decrease of 24 % from last year. Non -residential work also decreased, as it decreased by 9 % compared to the previous three months and 5 % on an annual basis.
There were some areas of growth. Office projects increased by about a third in the previous quarter and more than twice a year. The prominent plans included a renewal of 86 million pounds from Bush House, the former BBC World, and a recycling of 59 million pounds from 30 Finsbury Square in London.
However, the Economic Director of Gluengan Alan Willin said that these gains were outperformed by the sharp fall in other areas, including health and education.
He warned that residential work in particular was hindering the buyer’s weak confidence and delay related to the safety regulator approvals.
“Encouraging brands in the middle of the year has again gave the way to further decline,” He said, adding that the industry will look forward to the government’s autumn budget for support.
