Rio Tinto chair in future materials at Imperial College London College

About the role

Imperial College London is seeking to appoint the Rio Tinto chair for future materials in the Department of Earth Sciences and Engineering within the College of Engineering.

The Department of Earth Sciences and Engineering is located in London in the heart of the Royal Mines, at the heart of the cultural and educational region of the southern Kinsington, a multidisciplinary and varied community. Academics and researchers are at the forefront of discovering how the land and planets systems work and how we can support energy transmission and the future of zero and carbon pollution. We use a mixture of pure research, application and engineering to solve scientific and engineering challenges for 21street century.

We imagine that the position of the president is closely related to the Rio Center for Future Materials, which is $ 150 million, 10 years (2024-2034), a multidisciplinary global effort, to provide a step to change the approach to material extraction, use and reuse, in a more environmentally, economically and social way to support energy. The RIO Center for Future Materials will accelerate the development of new sustainable technologies and technologies required to provide the materials needed for energy transport. The center hosts Impical College London and combines Imperial Company, four international university partners (British Columbia University, Vancouver, University of California, Berkeley, University of Wittatrdarland, Johannesburg, Australian National University, Canberra), Rio Tinto.

We invite requests from candidates whose research focuses on developing new sustainable and environmentally friendly technologies to provide important raw materials for energy transport. In particular, we welcome candidates who can show a strong association with industry and encourage requests from groups currently represented in these areas in the UK, including women and people of black backgrounds and minorities.

We encourage you to arrange a discussion with our partner in search, Perrett laver, to learn more about the opportunity.
