Project Manager at STFC – Science and Technology Facilities Council
hours: Full -time or part -time (minimum 0.8 FTE)
location: Harwell campus, Oxfordshire, UK
Due to the requirements for a strengthening security permit for this role, we can only accept requests from people who have been residing in the UK over the past five years.
About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity for the project manager to join the National Center for Quantum Computing (NQCC). It will work alongside scientists, engineers, developers and experts in quantum techniques, and works to enhance quantum computing capabilities in the UK. As part of the program delivery team, project managers are necessary to deliver the ambitious road map to the United Kingdom.
Project managers are responsible for managing all aspects of designated projects to ensure NQCC provides high -quality outputs in the budget. Successful candidates are expected to use their stem backgrounds or experience related to scientific treatment in STEM to develop a comprehensive understanding of specific projects, which leads to the development and delivery of quantum computing devices, programs and services to NQCC, stakeholders and external partners.
Main responsibilities:
- Daily management of some of our projects related to quantitative computing and delivery of research and development or technical outputs, which ensures that all agreed milestones meet the expectations of the stakeholders
- Developing, managing and maintaining work relationships with colleagues at all levels, including the sponsor of the project, technical offers and external stakeholders.
- Coordination of project teams, to ensure the completion of deliveries on time, within the budget and meet quality requirements.
- Understand and implement the NQCC project management process for all designated projects.
- Maintaining project documents according to high standards including project management plan, risk records, communication plan, and lessons learned.
- The budget management of the project.
- Getting the project reports in an accurate and timely manner, allowing decision -making.
- Work with the NQCC assessment team to include monitoring, evaluation and benefits activity within projects.
- Being an advocate of positive change and continuous improvement. Support others and contribute to the NQCC process and policies.
- Forming a basic work understanding of the project’s topic and general quantum computing techniques.
- Work with the estimated authority to protect the project confidentiality, commercial sensitivity and personal data.

Person specifications:

- STEM degree or acquired experience.
- An excellent understanding of project management, tools and technologies, in computing, science, technology or engineering.
- Experience and/or qualifications in specializations related to the project, for example project management, risk management, quality management, benefits management, etc.
- Effective time management skills and problem solving, including experience in balanced the needs of multiple projects and stakeholders.
- A strong desire to obtain ownership and accountability for the delivery of technical products.
- Good and written communication skills and the ability to provide or report information in several ways.
- The ability to build relationships with stakeholders and influence them.
- The ability to lead and support teams to provide results. Especially where there is no control control control for the participants.
- He showed enthusiasm, commitment to NQCC’s task, vision and goals, and the desire to contribute to these goals.
