Two perspectives are correct on Tisha Paf 5774
Tonight we started to celebrate, 9 AV, is usually referred to as a name Tisha Paf, A day is miserable in the Jewish calendar. On this day, thousands of years ago, the Jews were saddened by the destruction of the first and second temples in Jerusalem. Throughout the centuries, the Jewish National Day has become mourning, as we narrate and towards calamities like the ten spies who prevented the Israelis from entering the promised land, and the destruction of Jewish societies in the Middle Ages like Worms, Speyer and MeinzThe Talmud burned in France and the Holocaust as well.
When I returned from the church tonight, where we sat on the ground and read LamentationAnd my wife noticed “I really feel Tishha Paf this year.” In essence, she was saying that the events of the past four weeks of the kidnappings of Eyal, ice and Nafafali to the war in the south, the moral killing of Muhammad, and the loss of our soldiers in the battles, brought Tisha Paf’s grief to a sharp point in the emotional event and identity.
Although we often offer different views of our children, each other and others, it is rare for my wife to wander around Jewish habits, feeling or practice. Therefore, its suspension has been cooking. Why? Because I did not have the same feeling.
Why? I asked myself, are my feelings less severe this year compared to previous years? The unit that the Israelis condemned the killing of Muhammad, a moment of national moral clarity. Moreover, I see a burning desire to continue what started during the war and try to build solidarity to build a fair and great society in Israel. We want to continue to build an economy that brings everyone to the twenty -first century and raise their standard of living. We want to build a society that innovates for the rest of the world and solves global problems. Over the past six weeks, we discovered that when we behave together, as one, we can find an ethical compass and do amazing things.
So on this tisha b’av, who is the right? The complex truth is that we need both perspectives. My wife is always right, so we will be sad about the disasters that shocked our people for thousands of years, and thus constantly created a common history and narration. We will feel the pain of those who have lost their lives over the past six weeks and the establishment of the state of Israel. However, I hope we also use this TISHA B’AV as a starting point for creating a fair, righteous, fair and great society that will be a light for nations. I pray to God today that we will benefit from what we have built in military techniques to build innovative solutions that solve hunger, diseases and educational gaps all over the world. Together we can do that. Together, we will do that.
