Groups and historical services at the Claude Moore Library for Health Sciences at the University of Virginia seek requests Digital archives. This is a term, renewable for up to three years.
Historical groups and services are devoted to preserving the history of health sciences at the University of Virginia and around the world. The section collects the materials in any of its forms that can give this sustainable, as the current priorities focused on documenting the history of UVA Health.
Providing reports to Alvin V. and Nancey Baired from historical groups, digital archives will be responsible for managing all digital and digital archives. The digital archive specialist will process digital groups and digital number, and uses the Archivespace area to create and spread the finding of intermediaries and digital organisms, create and implement the progress of digitization according to national standards, assist in identifying materials for digitization, and performing old treatment as needed. Digital archives will cooperate in descriptive data strategies to enhance access to the online evidence, its discovery, digital content and assistance in the Ministry’s web archiving program. Over time, the digital archive specialist will arrange online exhibitions that display and create new access points to historical groups.
The successful candidate will join a cooperative team and directed towards the service devoted to making the groups within reach, attractive and understandable for a wide range of beneficiaries. They will actively participate in professional development and survival opportunities with best practices, standards and trends in this field.
Duties and responsibilities
- It is the main supplier of digital records issues born in historical groups.
- Prepare the digital content and beams to save in Aptrust.
- Arrange the description of the hybrid and rear archiving groups in ArchivessPace.
- Development and maintenance of documenting the workflow and digital archive processing tools.
- Evaluating and helping transfers from the newly born hybrid and digital groups, in consultation with the coordinator.
- Help in the web archiving program for historical groups, in cooperation with the archives.
- Production of digital surveying operations for archival materials as part of the reference services of the administration.
- Maintaining awareness of emerging standards, techniques and practices in digital archives and their application to improve workflow and systems.
- Cooperation with colleagues through UVA libraries and the institution to align practices and exchange experience.
Physical demands
This is a stable function that includes wide use of desktop computers. The job sometimes requires travel with some distance to attend meetings and programs.
The expected recruitment range is $ 65,000 – $ 69,000, in proportion to education and experience. This is an exempted position, benefited. Learn more about UVA benefits.
This is a restricted position, dependent on financing and depends on the availability of financing (up to three years).
This position is located in Charlottsville, VA, and is qualified to obtain a hybrid table of 2 to 3 days on the campus per week, with additional presence on the site as needed, according to the UVA work instructions. The minimum requirements
Education: Master’s degree in Library Science from ALA approved or relevant graduate degree. Replace the experience equation (all instructions for the Ministry of Labor equation): related experience in the bachelor’s + 4 years.
Experience: 0-4 years of experience.
License: Nothing.
Favorite qualifications:
- Two years or more professional experience at work as wealthy, with the experience of treating the newly born digital materials.
- Knowing archive strategies such as MPLP, especially as it applies to the newly born digital content.
- Knowledge of the tools and programs used to capture, manage, transfer and present digital records, including web archiving systems.
- Knowing the archive description and memorization criteria such as DACS, EAD, Mets and Premis, as well as other relevant descriptive data standards.
- Great experience in creating definition data using a variety of vocabulary that is controlled in the associated data.
- Knowing legal and moral considerations in digital archives and digital activities in the higher education environment, including acquisition, access and intellectual property.
- The ability to work effectively in both the team’s cooperative environments independently.

Claude Moore’s Health Sciences Library is located at the University of Virginia in Charlotteville, Virginia.
