When it comes to searching for civil work, most former military personnel focus on the site, salary, job responsibilities, growth capabilities, job property, benefits, privileges, and the like.

But what about feeling the goal and meaning in the job?

One of the transitional navy recently told me, “How can I make sure that my work outside the Marine Corp gives me a feeling of mission, purpose and service that I had during the uniform?”

In my experience, the old warriors and military couples are still seeking to be part of a larger solution after leaving the army. They want to become part of an organization and a more move to the task, and serve greater effort than their own needs.

In many cases, your work can meet this need for purpose and meaning. In others, your work provides the means to the end-that is, a roof over your head and food for your family-but your sense of service comes through volunteering, guidance or other societal activities.

I remembered a large call center that I worked with and rented many former military personnel to work on phones. The company witnessed a high rotation rate because the work, as it confessed, was not often inspiring or enjoyable; People are often called only when something happened. Its employees quickly burned.

The company believed that the recruitment of veterans and military couples means less drainage, because the phone operators were required to exercise patience, flexibility, assistance and service of the needs of the callers. Those are military implants! But they failed to link work to the mission, and left people.

To treat this situation, we conducted hours of training and re -submitting employees to the company’s mission, which revolves around the care of their customers such as the family. Through a new framework through which the phone operators began to see that their role was to solve problems, the assistant, and a person to make the caller’s day better. This made a goal.

While evaluating job opportunities, find the purpose of work. Ask yourself:

• Will you help customers in meaningful ways?
• Will you get a chance to serve the population or the new community?
• Do you believe in the company’s product because of the good it offers?
• Do the company invest in the societies that you care about?
• Will the situation provide driving and vision opportunities so that you can share the reasons that you are more excited?

Sometimes, the job description is not written to highlight the purpose and concern provided by the work. By talking to people working for the company – or working in similar roles – you will gain a valuable vision about the ways where you can find emotion and important at work.

If it is really a viable and attractive opportunity from 9 to 5, then obligatory to find meaning and service outside your work. There are many opportunities in our societies today to help, lead, develop and serve others.
