What is the matter with salaries? – Career servant

The question that raises a lot among our customers these days is about the salary: Should I take a lower salary because the labor market is terrible?

The answer is not great, but … depends.

First, let me say that I always encourage people to negotiate, even when you are told that they are in the upper range of the salary they can pay. This is often a tactic to prevent people from asking for more. Although the company may want to pay the lowest possible amount, the employment manager wants the best candidate and ready to do what they need to get this person.

However, I will not pay it; If you do your search and ask what you feel you should earn / what you need to earn, and they say and say they cannot do that, let it be. The only exception to this will be if your skills set is high demand and low supply. Then ask for another signature or arrangement reward that enhances your compensation package.

If the drop in the job quickly is a financial necessity, you must think closely taking a lower offer. If not, you may want to continue trying, but you can still not reach your last or higher salary unless you have a unique skills set that is difficult to find.

I know that many of you are concerned that you may lose the potential of the future by taking a lower salary, and I want to dispel this myth.

Many people must take steps in their career for all kinds of reasons, but this does not mean that you cannot win what you have earned before. We have worked with many people over the years who managed to go to a new job and get a 20 % increase in the salary. There is no reason that this cannot happen either.

Employers realize that this is a difficult market and that the candidates must control their expectations, including the salaries they accept. You will have the opportunity to explain the situation in the future as needed.
